We stopped at the Columbia River Maritime Museum and learned a lot about mariner's and the area. The kids really liked it and they loved all the hands-on parts of the museum. 
We learned that the Coast Guard gets about 600 calls a year in this area, yikes. They had a shipwreck graveyard diorama/map that was quite interesting and told about each shipwreck, what was lost and how many died. I had the urge to go treasure hunting in the local waters after our visit.
